NHL Legend Claude Lemieux Passes Away at 60 Four-time Stanley Cup champion and Conn Smythe Trophy winner Claude Lemieux has passed away at the age of 60 in Lake Park, Florida.

The Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office confirmed the cause of death as suicide. According to authorities, deputies responded to a call after 3:00 a.m. at the Andros Home luxury furniture showroom, a business Lemieux ran alongside his wife, Deborah. He was discovered at the scene by one of his sons.

The tragic news comes just days after Lemieux was honored in a pre-game ceremony at Montreal’s Bell Centre, where he carried a ceremonial torch onto the ice before Game 3 of the Canadiens’ playoff series.

 


Who Was Claude Lemieux?

Born in Buckingham, Quebec, Lemieux forged a reputation as one of the most fierce, clutch, and resilient playoff performers in NHL history. Over a 21-season career, his unique blend of grit and scoring ability made him a definitive figure of 1990s hockey.
